B Herd Calf Weaning and Cow Hoof Trimming
Gallery Description :
This last Monday (01/10/2012) the crew gathered up B herd for weaning and hoof maintenance. Blair Labatt III joined the crew and participated.
Early that morning horses were gathered, saddled up, and trailed to pasture 15 in B-block. The crew split up into groups of 2 and spread out across the pasture to seek out B herds' cow-calf pairs. The majority of cattle came from the north of the pasture, and were trailed along the Eastern fence line of pasture 15 into B-block's pens.
After the cattle had been gathered, the crew proceeded to sort the calves from the cows utilizing their horses, the pens' gates and allways, and team work. Ground work came next.
Many cows in the herd were due for a hoof trim, and they all needed their scheduled vaccinations. Because of the time involved in trimming a cows hooves, some of the cows were fed hay and held in the pens overnight. The job was completed the following day. Click read more to go to the gallery.
