Padres Mesa Ranch Manager Bill Inman talks about the Native American Beef Program.

  • Bill: We're here to speak about the good, and the bad, and the ugly. First of all I've heard about A bunch of ugly and about a bunch of bad. I'm gonna tell you what the good things are. The good things are the Native Americans have an advantage...

  • Now you say: Why do Native Americans have an advantage?
  • You have a culture of grazing people, you have young people that are excited about grazing. That want to be involved, they want to see a ray of hope, they want to stand up.
  • If you raise a quality product and you put your story on it, its wanted around the world.
  • You're sitting in your own customer, the casinos. Navajo Beef is being served right outside.
  • ... start taking individual responsibility for the land. Don't what for someone else to tell you.Let's start raising fewer animals and better quality animals.
  • Kim Zazzie Please stand up. She don't even own any cattle. Shes our food distributor Food Liaison that buys your beef and puts it here.
  • I remember when we founded the Padres Mesa, they said go get some bela gona(translation: white man?) cowboys, Navajos are undependable. They don't care.
  • I'm here to tell you I have the best cowboys in the world. Please stand up (cowboy Anderson White stands up).
  • Six years ago you'd be lucky to get $400 for your calves.
  • You know what it now is, what about $1500... A piece.
  • The reason we have a horse problem is we don't have a market for unwanted horses.

Now go eat some Navajo Beef.

I went to the Navajo Nation Wildlife Summit with the Padres Mesa crew today.  When I watched the recorded meeting I found that I could create a summery with of the video and so thought I should post it on the site.

Bill, Great job! You hit the nail on the head. Shannon
